The Omaha Public School District suffers millions in pension indebtedness, huge bonded indebtedness, and cost overruns in its building projects. Yet, an OP$ board majority rejected a $630,000 bid for the old Yates School building, its valuation set at up to $737,000, for a retiree facility. The board instead voted for a $100,000 bid from a group that will allow the Refugee Empowerment Center, which services unvetted aliens, to use the premises.
