STOP BELLEVUE, NE. SALES TAX HIKE

The Bellevue City Council has voted 5-0 to place a question on the Nov. 6 ballot, asking voters to approve an additional 1/2c local sales tax, increasing the local sales tax to 2c per dollar.  Including the 5.5c per dollar state sales tax, Bellevue residents would pay a total of 7c per dollar sales tax.  Supposedly, this additional sales tax would pay for improved infrastructure to entice businesses to locate in Bellevue.  However, our NTF examination of LB 357, passed by the Legislature earlier this year, reveals that cities could use this additional tax money for many unnecessary expenditures, like streetscapes, trolleys, ice rinks, and aquatic centers.  Proponents say that this higher tax will relieve property taxes, a ruse never proved true.       Nebraska Taxpayers for Freedom would like to fight this tax hike, but only if  Bellevue residents volunteer to help us plan and implement a campaign.  We promise to work with you closely to accomplish this effort.  Please email us at netaxpayers@gmail.com.
